The premier of rival Australian state New South Wales wants to nick the Oz grand prix from Melbourne (Feb 08) - Sydney would be willing to host it (Mar 08) and see a disagreement between Melbourne and Bernie Ecclestone as their chance to jump in and grab the race (Aug 08).  1980 world champion Alan Jones would rather ditch F1 in favour of A1 motor racing (May 08).  Bernie wants a night race (Feb 08).  The local council wants it scrapped altogether (Jun 08).

Racist comments from F1 'fans' caused a furore when Lewis Hamilton tested in Spain (Feb 08).  Ticket sales at this year's Spanish grand prix have been slow (Apr 08).

Canada -BR-

.NEW. Canada have some work to do to stop their track crumbling in future (Jun 08). The circuit has been dropped from the 2009 calendar (Oct 08).

France
June 22

.NEW. Paris doesn't have the funds to host the French grand prix in replacement of the outgoing Magny Cours grand prix (May 08), and now the Federation Francaise du Sport Automobile has cancelled the race altogether without even speaking to the FIA about it (Oct 08).

Britain
July 6

Old rocker Damon Hill has begged the FIA to persuade Bernie that he shouldn't axe the British grand prix (Mar 08) but Bernie insists there are no plans for a race there in 2008 (May 08). Hill went on to say Max Mosley staying on as FIA boss can only harm the British grand prix (Jun 08).

Germany
July 20

.NEW. Hockenheim look set to run out of funds within two years (May 08), speculation supported by the town's mayor (Sep 08), after the 2008 event looked set to lose 3million euros (Jul 08).  Mercedes-Benz F1 have ruled out a rescue package (Sep 08). The Hockenheim and Nurburgring circuits could lose their slots on the F1 calendar to a street race in either Berlin or Hamburg (Feb 08).    A legal dispute over the name of the German grand prix rumbles on (Jul 08).

A number of pitlane fires at the 2008 race have been blamed on ambient temperatures (Aug 08).

Europe
August 24

The European Union is investigating European grand prix organisers for irregularities in their planning process (Apr 08).  Valencia organisers have apologies that one of their grandstands doesn't overlook the circuit (Aug 08).

Italy

.NEW. Monza broke FIA rules when the winner's trophies were shaped like a sponsor's logo (Sep 08).

It proved a nightmare buying tickets for many fans, with many trying unsuccessfully for hours.  Singapore's ministry of trade and industry has expressed concern at the chaos (Feb 08). Meanwhile, the timetable for the event has been changed to allow for extra practice time for drivers worried about driving in the dark (Jun 08).

Toyota must work hard to restore honour say Japanese media after the 2007 Fuji race was beset by traffic problems and poor facilities (Feb 08), while fighting off lawsuits from over 100 F1 fans (Jun 08).

China
October 19

The fired boss of Shanghai's Formula One circuit will spend four years in jail for embezzlement after losing an appeal, while the circuit has suffered damage from gale force winds (Apr 08).

Non-championship
circuits

.NEW. IAustria: The proposed redevelopment of Austria's classic but dull A1 Ring was scrapped (Feb 08) but only temporarily (Oct 08).  The circuit said a return to F1 would be "absurd" (Oct 08).

India: India's only ex-F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan doubts his country's ability to host a grand prix (Sep 08) - and he could be right: Bernie is in no rush to add India to the calendar (Sep 08).

South Africa: The Cape Town grand prix may be scrapped, says a South African politician (Apr 08).

USA: Bernie isn't bothered about bringing the USA grand prix back, saying he'd rather "go east than go west" (Jun 08).  NASCAR ran into tyre problems at the USA Indianapolis circuit, leading to comparisons with the F1 fiasco in 2005 (Jul 08).
